During their inspections carried out throughout 2024, the WRC uncovered over 7,700 specific contraventions of governing legislation. One of the most significant areas of contravention the WRC highlighted was that of Payment of Wages, namely in relation to the increase in the National Minimum Wage (NMW) from 2023 to 2024. In total in 2024, WRC inspectors recovered unpaid employee wages totalling over €2.1 million, an increase of over €200,000 from the previous year.

Food Service Activities, Wholesale & Retail Trade, and Hair & Beauty formed the three Sectors that saw the highest number of inspection cases in 2024.

The WRC received 7,316 complaint applications between January and December of 2024, representing 14,890 Individual Complaints. This number represents a slight but definitive increase in Individual Complaints from 2023, in which 14,158 Individual Complaints were received.

5,156 workplace inspections were completed in 2024, an increase of over 1,000 cases from 2023.

In 2024, a total of 175 prosecutions were undertaken, of which 141 resulted in successful outcomes. 77 convictions were recorded as part of these outcomes during the 2024 calendar year.
